Safety first: Complimentary designated driving service to be offered in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Drivers in Phoenix will have the opportunity to participate in a complimentary designated driving service for one night in an effort to curb the number of drunk driving-related accidents in the state.

BeMyDD, otherwise known as Be My Designated Driver, will be offering its pick-up service to Phoenix drivers from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Jan. 23 for free as a part of a new campaign to reduce the number of drunk driving-related accidents.

The service will allow anyone who has been drinking to request a team of drivers to come to their location, pick them and their car up and drive their vehicle home.

Alexa Milkovich with BeMyDD said the service usually costs users a $25 pickup fee plus $3.45 per mile, but thanks to its 24-City Designated Driver Tour, the service will be offered for free that night.

Drivers can request the service online at BeMyDD.com, on their mobile app for iPhones or Androids or by calling 877-U-BeMyDD toll free. It will be first-come, first-served.

For drivers who may not need the service on that specific night, new customers can get $20 off their first ride on any day with the code DDTOUR through the mobile app.

The company partnered with Jack Daniel’s Whiskey and Total Wine and More for the tour, which began last September in Los Angeles and will make its way to New York City in August.

This isn’t the Valley’s first attempt at preventing dangerous driving: Arizona Department of Transportation has received national recognition for taking its safe driving campaign to the billboards, using “Star Wars” references and the infamous peas and guacamole recipe to get its message across.
