S. Jersey town extends free ride program to curb DUIs

Date Posted: Mon, Oct 19 2015, Philly Voice
In an effort to reduce the number of DUIs and get drunken drivers off its roads, one South Jersey town has launched a program offering free rides home via Uber.

The program, in Evesham Township, Burlington County, has been made possible through a partnership between Uber and a national program called BEmyDD, and funded through donations.

According to CBS Philly, it began as a month-long pilot initiative, but because of its success – "providing 350 people free rides last month" – township officials have decided to extend the offer through the end of the year.

Through Jan. 2, 2016, rides are offered seven days a week from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. To utilize the program, residents of Evesham Township must download a special app to their phone.
