Date Posted: Fri, Dec 31 2010, The Courier-Journal
Local and state police are revving up the number of officers on road patrols Friday night and early Saturday to deter impaired drivers from risking themselves and others.

Sgt. Kevin Hamlin, a spokesman for the Louisville Metro Police traffic division, said about 90 percent of the division's officers will be on the lookout for drunken driving from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday, well above the normal number for a given shift.

BeMyDD - created by two Kent State University graduates - has been up and running in Louisville for about two months but already has found success in other major cities such as Chicago, Washington, D.C., Indianapolis, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Co-owner Alexa Milkovich said the company decided to expand to Louisville after friends told her that the city has a lot of professionals who enjoy a night on the town.
