The Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control (DLC) has announced an expansion of its partnership with the nation’s largest designated driver service, Be My Designated Driver (BeMyDD), and Jack Daniel’s to help prevent drunk driving in Montgomery County.

The Spring Designated Driver Program will promote alternatives to drunk driving in bars and restaurants across the county, featuring educational materials and offering free $20 gift cards towards a designated driver through BeMyDD’s mobile app. The app allows smartphone users to reserve a driver who will drive them anywhere they want to go in their own car, with unlimited stops for hourly rates.

The program is a continuation of the partnership’s successful 2015 Holiday Rides campaign, which encouraged Montgomery County residents to plan their night when celebrations include alcohol over Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“Our holiday program reached thousands of people and introduced them to a convenient way to find a safe ride home,” said Kathie Durbin, Division Chief of Licensure regulation and Education. “We’re happy to partner with BeMyDD and Jack Daniel’s again and to expand the program beyond liquor stores to our county’s bars and restaurants where people can immediately take advantage of the program’s benefits.”

In addition to taking a social responsibility message to more locations, the Spring Designated Driver program will use table tents and posters to educate the public.

“Warm weather means people spend more time out enjoying themselves, meeting up with friends, and traveling,” said Arthur Simanovsky, BeMyDD CEO and President. “Spring is the perfect time to remind everyone that there are easy, affordable alternatives to getting behind the wheel.”

According to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), alcohol-impaired accidents involving motor vehicles cost more than an estimated $37 billion annually, resulting in a death every 51 minutes. In addition to the risk of physical harm due to drunk driving, the average driving under the influence (DUI) can cost offenders $10,000 in fines, fees, and court costs.

With its alternative transportation solution, BeMyDD aims to decrease alcohol-related crashes and DUIs. In addition to providing professional drivers on an hourly basis ($14-$19.50 an hour), BeMyDD also offers teams of drivers for events ($45-$53 per hour) and a car pickup service, where you can use the app’s GPS to request that both you and your car be picked up at any location and taken home ($25 pickup + mileage). Fully-screened and fully-insured, BeMyDD’s drivers have over 10 years of driving experience and arrive dressed in professional attire.

“If you choose to drink this spring, please do so responsibly,” says Pat Belanger, On Premise Market Manager at Jack Daniel’s parent corporation Brown-Forman. “The SpringDD Program is a fundamental way to connect people with services that can make responsibility easy, and we’re excited to be able to partner with BeMyDD and Montgomery County DLC to make this happen.”

The SpringDD Program launched on March 14 and will continue through May 31. BeMyDD’s designated driver app is available for both iOS (7.0 and later) and Android (4.0.3 and later) and can be downloaded through the App Store, Google Play, or BeMyDD’s website at http://www.bemydd.com/mobile-apps.
